So while technically your post does not directly tell anyone to do anything illegal I personally would put that up there with any other act that has the intent of directing people towards an illegal act, and think it walks a very fine line. When people are talking about emulators and ROMs in most cases they are talking about ways to get access to games that they can't otherwise play due to a lack of the hardware or not wanting to buy the game (or in some cases not being able to buy the game to do region release etc.). But when people are talking about ROMs and emulators that is very rarely, if every, the case. 8 20 comments Add a Comment deleted 2 yr. If you own a switch, rip your own ROMs and use them and them alone in an emulator you are fine and doing nothing wrong. Hello, I've been wandering the internet for the past 5 hours looking for an Animal Crossing: New Horizons ROM but all of them seem to redirect to cloud downloading sites that don't work, or sketchy sites telling me to 'update my browser software.' Any kind of help would be nice. The fact that you have to HAVE a switch in the first place to rip the game, and people are talking about using this as a method to not having to buy a switch proves that point. Trying to argue that there is a legal way to do it is just trying to find some excuse. But again lets be honest, a overwhelming majority of the people here using / wanting to use emulators aren't buying a physical switch game and ripping a ROM of it. Sure ROMs are perfectly legal if you bought the game and ripped the ROM yourself.
